Venue: Coastal Craft Collective, 10 Marine Place, Seaton, Devon, EX12 2QL

On this workshop you will use a mix of materials including driftwood, fabric and wire to make your own unique boat.

Using driftwood pieces, you will assemble your boat starting with the base and mast. A selection of fabric will be available to use as sails.  You'll cut the fabric to fit the driftwood and use glue to give the fabric structure.

The Sail Away workshop combines techniques used in mixed media crafting and jewellery making. To attach the sails to the mast and base of the boat, coloured wire is wrapped around the mast and twisted into loops before securing the sails with wire loops.  Let your creativity lose with colour combinations and patterns of wire and fabric.

Once you have everything ready the final step is to attach the mast to the base. Depending on the driftwood used this will be done using a glue gun, wire or hammered fixings. Sometimes all three!

Due to the natural process of sea tumbling and tidal flows the driftwood used in this workshop will vary in size and shape.

The workshop cost includes materials and tea, coffee or soft drinks.

Suitable for age 14 +
