Enjoy a full day of nature journaling with artist and nature journal educator Alex Boon.

Nature journaling is simply the act of keeping a journal that has a strong, but not necessarily exclusive, focus on nature. Your nature journal might take the form of a sketchbook, a species list, a written journal, a scrapbook, a photo diary or something else.

In this one day introduction to nature journaling. nature will show you some fundamentals of nature journaling with fun prompts and exercises. They are suitable for any level of artistic / naturalist / writing skills.

We will begin with a simple sketchbook and pencil with a morning of sketching on Seaton beach, the cliffside gardens and the surrounding area. Alex will provide a small book and pencil but you may bring a sketchbook if you prefer to use that. He will also give you a printed illustrated nature journaling guide that he has created for you to keep as a reference.

Weather permitting we hope for a picnic lunch on the beach or in the garden. You can bring a packed lunch or, if you prefer, they'll be an opportunity to visit local shops to buy refreshments. Extra nibbles will be provided!

After lunch we will return to Coastal Craft Collective's workshop space to work the morning's observations into a page (or more!) of paintings and writing. They'll be a pool of materials available for you to use. You are also welcome to bring your own. The tuition will focus on the use of Derwent Inktense pencils and waterbrushes (provided for you to try.)

The session is aimed at ages 16+. We are able to take children ages 10+ by arrangement as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian . Please contact us if you would like to bring a younger person so we can discuss it with you.

Alex is happy to run his sessions with 6 people or more. If less than 6 places are booked,  we will cancel the session. If this happens, we'll offer the people who have booked the class a place on an alternative day, a credit for another workshop or a full refund, whichever they prefer.
