Jan was trained in Yorkshire and has taught Art & Design for over 25 years. Her work explores texture and colour using a combination of machine and hand embroidery. The inspiration and starting points are usually natural or organic such as tree bark, flowers, and landscapes - particularly the Jurassic Coastline in East Devon. Although the pieces are developed from observational drawing they tend to evolve as they are being worked. A combination of threads, fabrics, beads and paint is used to create an interesting and unique surface.
